State Licensure Information
Q. Does the state accept EMT & Fire Training Continuing Education Courses?
A. EMT & Fire Training continuing education courses are CAPCE accredited and accepted by the NREMT. You should confirm with your state EMS office that they accept CAPCE accredited Continuing Education.
Q. Can I become a certified and licensed EMT or AEMT (Intermediate) in New Mexico if I pass the EMT & Fire Training EMT or AEMT Course?
A. Yes. The state of New Mexico accepts EMT's and Intermediates who are NREMT certified to apply for licensure through reciprocity, but there is a requirement to successfully complete a 16 Hour Transition Course and a New Mexico State Exam.
Q. Where is the state of New Mexico in the transition from the National Standard Curriculum to the new National EMS Education Standards?
A. The state of New Mexico does not recognize NREMT Certification at the EMT and AEMT levels. If you are coming to NM from out of state you are required to successfully complete a 16 hour Transition Course and the NM State Exam to become licensed in the State of New Mexico.
Q. Does New Mexico require any extra EMT training that EFT does not provide in its course?
A. The New Mexico scope of practice for EMT and AEMT is much more extensive than the scope taught under the National EMS Education Standards. If you meet all of the qualifications, New Mexico will give you a temporary license that is good for 6 months. Within that 6 months you will need to successfully complete a 16 hour transition course taught by one of the 5 approved NM EMS training institutions, and then you are required to successfully complete the NM State Exam. Once you have successfully completed the transition course and state test, you will receive a license. You can also apply for a seasonal/temporary license with your out-of-state National Registry Certification card.
Q. How do I recertify for EMS in the State of New Mexico?
A. EMT (Basics) and AEMT's (Intermediates) must present a current New Mexico approved helathcare provider level CPR card, and complete an EMT refresher taught by one of the 5 NM approved EMS training institutions that consists of Preparatory (1-hour), Airway and Ventilation (2-hours), Patient Assessment (3-hours), Medical Emergencies (6-hours), Trauma Emergencies (6-hours), Special Considerations (4-hours), Operations (2-hours), provide evidence of an additional 24 hours of Continuing Education, of which, 4 hours are required to be of pediatric content and submit the appropriate renewal fee. Check out specifics here: https://nmems.org/ContinuingEducation.shtml on the CE Manual 2011.
Q. I failed the NREMT exam 3 times already. Will your 24 Hour Online EMT Refresher allow me to retest with the NREMT?
A. Yes. Once you pass our 24 Hour EMT Online Refresher course you will have 3 more opportunities at taking the NREMT Exam. The Course is accepted by the NREMT and covers all 24 hours of the Mandatory Core and Content required. To insure that you pass on your next attempt you can practice for the exam with our test prep site.
Q. I failed the NRAEMT exam 3 times already. Will your 36 Hour Online AEMT Refresher allow me to retest with the NREMT?

The Course is accepted by the NREMT for both AEMT and I85 and covers all 36 hours of the Mandatory Core and Flexible Core Content required. Q. Will your 36 Hour Online AEMT Refresher allow me to recertify as an Advanced EMT?
A. To recertify with the National Registry as an AEMT you will need to complete the 36 Hour AEMT Refresher, an additional 36 Continuing Education (CE's) hours, and have a current CPR Certification. If you are doing this Refresher for State Licensure, please check with your state first to see if they will accept this 36 Hour Online AEMT Refresher that is CAPCE approved and NREMT accepted.
